Public transportation happens through a variety of modes and varies by community and region, such as buses, light rail, subways, trolleys, ferries, etc. In Shasta County, the primary modes of public transportation currently are buses, paratransit services for seniors and people with disabilities, passenger rail, and air travel.
The largest public transportation provider is the Redding Area Bus Authority (RABA). RABA transports approximately 504,000 passenger trips annually on a fleet of 38 buses and vans and also provides opportunity for vanpool and bikeshare services.
The Shasta Regional Transportation Agency (SRTA) collaborates with RABA; the county of Shasta; the cities of Shasta Lake, Redding, and Anderson; Dignity Health Connected Living; Native American Tribes; Caltrans; the Federal Transit Administration; and the Federal Highway Administration to maximize state, federal, and other revenues for cost-effective transportation investment strategies to connect communities, people, and goods.

There are a variety of different public transportation services in the Shasta Region. Below are some of the most readily available services in Shasta County. Transit
Redding Area Bus Authority (RABA): RABA is a joint-powers agency between the City of Redding, the City of Shasta Lake, the City of Anderson, and the County of Shasta and provides countywide public transit services on 15 fixed & flex routes, a vanpool program, a bikeshare subsidy program and a complementary paratransit service. ShastaConnect: SRTA contracts with Dignity Health Connected Living (DHCL) for specialized on demand ridesharing transit service in Shasta County including Monday through Friday (weekday) in rural Shasta County, including within:
- The Redding Area Bus Authority (RABA) service area where services are not currently provided and for those who are ineligible for RABA’s complimentary paratransit services but are unable to ride fixed route service; and
- The Intermountain Area communities of Burney, Cassel, Fall River Mills, and McArthur

Rail
Passenger Rail in the Shasta Region is operated by Amtrak via route 11 and 14 on the Coast Starlight. The Coast Starlight travels from Seattle, WA, to Los Angeles, CA with 29 different stops. Currently, the northbound train arrives at 3:05 a.m. daily and the southbound train arrives at 2:31 a.m. daily. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit their website here. Air Travel
Redding Regional Airport: The Redding Regional Airport (RDD) is a full-service airport that provides commercial airline passenger service, rental cars, parking, and transportation services, as well as aviation-related services and aircraft hangar facilities. RDD offers direct flights to San Francisco (SFO), Los Angeles (LAX), and Seattle (SEA). These options provide convenient travel services for business professionals, quick vacations closer to home, or connections to countless destinations worldwide.
